July 27th, 2010: Geek entry

I just love the new Google Image search! Did you notice how all text is gone from the result page, until you hover a specific image? And how the image is in a lightbox when you go to the site it’s on? Snazzy..!

July 9th, 2010: Blythe clones comparison

In addition to my three Blythe, I also have a CCE (color changing eyes) doll and a Basaak doll. Here are some comparison pictures for those of you who consider getting a clone. I definitely recommend the Basaak over a CCE doll..! Read the rest of this entry »

June 20th, 2010: Swoon..! From zero to four in a month..

Swoon..!

I wasn’t going to get any dolls in the 16cm range; my itsy bitsy tinies (Lati Whites, Brownies and Puki) were going to cater for my need to take cute re-ment pics. With the arrival of Pukifees, my firm decision started to crumble, and with the release of the affordable Leffy of dollk, I was more or less doomed. This week I found myself being the owner of no less than four 16cm bjds – funny thing is, none of them are Pukifees nor from dollk…

I dropped the Leffy doll because I ended up finding her too cute, a decision which was definitely supported by the release of the Doll Leaves “Angels” dolls (previously blogged about here). Just quirky and stylistic enough for my liking – and perfect playmates for my already acquired Mui-chan (a lucky find on eBay). Said Mui-chan is sadly without her open eyes face nowadays; I wiped the faceup she came with but haven’t been in the mood to give her a new one that I wanted to keep. Must browse her flickr pool, I reckon. And then, out of the blue, came pouty little Kieran, a Lati Yellow Kuroo with slight modifications and a custom faceup. Because of their somewhat limited posability, I didn’t want to get a Lati Yellow, and definitely not a WS one, but I just couldn’t resist this little kiddo…

I am still not 100% convinced about the Laty Y body – the legs are awfully kicky (though that can be fixed), and what’s with the hilariously short arms?? The 16cm size, however, is brilliant! How did I not discover before?

On that note, my Lati White Pury and my Domuya D-1 30 Potpourri are both up for adoption..!

June 13th, 2010: September 2010 – acorn, strawberry, and… police?

Two cuties for September, and a completion of the police set with hunk Wayne and his awesome goggles – and _leather_ face mask (Dr. Lecter, is that you..?). Am I the only one finding the police trio a bit.. kinky? Hm. Anyway, besides the goggles and what seems to actually be a decent Tae stock wig for once, he doesn’t do much for me. Too much alike the recent Hellcatpunk boy, isn’t he? And the girls? The Pullip is too plain (like her eyechips, though!), and the Dal has the wrong colours for my liking. A mix of Rovam and Melize, isn’t she?

But that’s ok, there are several other releases I am still pondering about getting; Dals mostly: Kanta, Satti, Sakura, Maretti, Lizbel – and of course, Angry. Soon!

June 10th, 2010: Resurrection of the Brownies

Finally some good news for those of us smitten by the charm of the Brownie dolls. For those of you unfamiliar with the brand, these are tiny dolls the size of PukiPukis, and with the same amazing posability – double joints in such a small doll is just amazing. Last year’s sad series of events are bygones (well, at least for those of us who didn’t lose any money during the whole ordeal), and a new distributor is doing what seems to be a great job in rebranding the Brownie. There’s a new website up; Browniedoll.jp, and there’s a total revamp of their faceups, outfits, and boxes.

May 14th, 2010: August 2010 releases

Pullip releases Aug 2010

Kenji has more, scroll a little and you’ll find them.

The Pullip is a police officer called Melissa. I am probably not the only one thinking Beressa redesigned (Beressa prototype vs original WWII SS uniform, images credit goes to tikistitch). Melissa’s uniform is definitely a lot more acceptable, but I personally find promo pics like this one a little.. hilarious, and slightly tacky. At least Lucia, the police Dal, appeared to be doing some real police work in hers. ;)

The Tae is the second doll from the steampunk series to be released. I am unimpressed. I don’t like his faceup nor his mismatching eyes nor the hair. The outfit seems to be highly detailed, but not my cup of tea. Money saved, right here! :) The Dal is joining the Asian couple (May release), and looks really cute! Nice, subtle and warm, BJD like, faceup – I may look for her nude/bald.

May 7th, 2010: Another cute tiny BJD series!

16cm BJDs seem to pop out everywhere I look lately, the market that was once dominated by Lati has now strong competition from Fairyland with their Pukifees, but also the stylistic doll Mui-chan of IxTEE, the weird Person dolls from Secretdoll, and low budget dolls like Leffy of dollk. Today I discovered yet another series of the latter – low budget indeed, $99 including body, head, one pair of random acrylic eyes, one box and birthday card (faceup add $35, free if you order before May 30). They’re available in normal or white skin. They’re from doll company “Doll Leaves”, and the fun trio’s names are DingDing, JiaJia, and DangDang (there’s also a sad little one called Ku)..! Aren’t they cute?

I am not sure if you will grow tired with the constant grimace of theirs? Puki Puki Pong Pong (what’s with those names..?) has a similar grinning face, and she seems popular enough? I am counting on my fingers whether or not to get a Ding Ding (the one smiling with closed eyes) – she would be a nice companion for my Mui-chan, wouldn’t she?
