After not having spent a single dime on eBay for well over a month – a first time ever, since I started collecting dolls back in Aug 2008 – I am “finally” waiting for something new again.

Isn’t she just gorgeous? She’s an Abio Angel “Shi”, an SD sized doll which will complement my Dollfie Dream(s), the Volks “Rio” head and even my Dollzone “Yage” quite perfectly, with her anime-ish look and all. She’s a totally unplanned addition to the doll family; her arrival is made possible through a spur-of-the-moment trade with fellow Norwegian doll aficionada Kristin. I am also expecting Pullip Ddalgi and Byul HumptyDumpty to arrive pretty soon, they were shipped from the US yesterday. Hooray!

I am crossing my fingers for PullipStyle et al to get these items too! Eos and Coral are the only motives printed, which is fine with me – I will be looking at the Eos items as I quite like the overall style and image of that release. Not too keen on Lolita fashion, so the Carol products are not that tempting. Will have another, closer, look at each item before I decide for sure, though!

Anyone with a slight interest for Pullips and lucky enough to be in Tokyo this weekend, hopefully went to the 29th Dollshow today. No such luck for me, but there are pics being published at several blogs, like the two linked below (thank you, Priere, for the pointers!). A trend lately seems to be painting the upper eyelashes as well as the lower, I am not sure if I like it. It looks awesome when the Pullip has her eyes open, and just plain silly when she blinks or closes both her eyes… The below dolls are two “twin” prototypes; kitten and bunny, the Gothic & Lolita Psycho movie star Yuki, and the Ninja Pullip – all four have eyelashes like that:

I quite like the green twin, btw! I am not sure about their estimated release date, couldn’t read the note next to them properly, but from the blog text they may be the Doll Carnival dolls (the bunny has been displayed before, btw). Not overly enthusiastic about Yuki, seems as her faceup is quite yellowish and that’s not really my cup of tea. The previous pics didn’t reveal this to the same extent. The Ninja Pullip looks fierce, but again with the upper eyelashes.. hm.

See lots and lots of pics:
http://pu-rog.jugem.jp/ (click the small stars in the top entries, they’re links)
http://kei526.blog28.fc2.com/ (several pics of the Seikima II series)

Seeing all these pics just confirmed that I still have a weak spot for Ddalgi, I really like her bold yet “plain” eyes and nude-ish lips, and the overall colour scheme of her faceup.

A VERY interesting Pullip release is scheduled for May 2011, pre-ordering period starting October 1st. Limited to 300 pieces, a Pullip based on glamour model (“gravure idol”) Rina Akiyama. Akiyama is – wiki blurb following – known from an appearance in two “Kamen Rider” series as well as a cameo appearance in “Metal Gear Solid 3″ in which she is featured in a poster on one of the levels. She has also been named to have the “Best Buttocks in Japan” in 2007, which earned her the nickname “Oshirina”, a portmanteau of the words “oshiri” (buttocks) and “Rina”. ;) The Pullip – a JAP x Rina Akiyama collab – will be a copy of Akiyama’s character in the brand new movie “Gothic & Lolita Psycho” (released in Jap theaters last weekend), and she is looking to become pretty fierce!

“Snow fight alone to avenge the death squad. It is pretty mysterious Gosuroridoresu clothes that she wear the combat. JAP costume drama produced in every detail reproduced without fully utilizing the studio know-how. Needs and incorporate ideas played Rina Akiyama Yuki’s wearing Gosuroridoresu addition, Dole is expected to be attractive and cute. Anburerasodo will be also included weapons.” says gTranslate.

To the bottom left is a pic from what the JAP website describes as a “Yuki Lolita” doll production meeting. From right to left: Ohara Takashi (director), Rina Akiyama, YOU-KO (JAP workshop), Kawakaminoboru (JAP studio), Wada Takahiro (Groove).

Thoughts? No mentioning of prices anywhere, neither on Groove, Kenji’s flickr stream nor the JAP website. As a collab, limited to 300pc, and with accessories mentioned to be misc weapons, I am expecting a rather pricey little lady.. Some info in English about the movie here.

Two cuties for September, and a completion of the police set with hunk Wayne and his awesome goggles – and _leather_ face mask (Dr. Lecter, is that you..?). Am I the only one finding the police trio a bit.. kinky? Hm. Anyway, besides the goggles and what seems to actually be a decent Tae stock wig for once, he doesn’t do much for me. Too much alike the recent Hellcatpunk boy, isn’t he? And the girls? The Pullip is too plain (like her eyechips, though!), and the Dal has the wrong colours for my liking. A mix of Rovam and Melize, isn’t she?

But that’s ok, there are several other releases I am still pondering about getting; Dals mostly: Kanta, Satti, Sakura, Maretti, Lizbel – and of course, Angry. Soon!

Kenji has more, scroll a little and you’ll find them.

The Pullip is a police officer called Melissa. I am probably not the only one thinking Beressa redesigned (Beressa prototype vs original WWII SS uniform, images credit goes to tikistitch). Melissa’s uniform is definitely a lot more acceptable, but I personally find promo pics like this one a little.. hilarious, and slightly tacky. At least Lucia, the police Dal, appeared to be doing some real police work in hers. ;)

The Tae is the second doll from the steampunk series to be released. I am unimpressed. I don’t like his faceup nor his mismatching eyes nor the hair. The outfit seems to be highly detailed, but not my cup of tea. Money saved, right here! :) The Dal is joining the Asian couple (May release), and looks really cute! Nice, subtle and warm, BJD like, faceup – I may look for her nude/bald.

With the steadily rising price of Pullip & family, I feel I am slowly losing interest in keeping up with the new releases. I’d rather spend that money on accessories for my existing collection, and/or get more BJDs. I mean, the Innocent World Pullip dress is absolutely amazing, but it still doesn’t make the doll worth $140.. what are your thoughts?

Decreasing interest all the same, I still can’t help but look at pics when I stumble across them – like today, when Kenji posted a bunch of prototype pics from a recent doll show. There’s Cruella De Vil, Snow White, Ariel, Mary Poppins and other Disney characters (princesses), there’s a Mad Hatter Tae, there’s what seems like more fashion label collabs, and some original characters (cute bunny ear costumes and such). Still no sign of the promised little brother – at least not that I can spot:
