Unwrapping Nomado

At the end of July 2008 I purchased my first ball-jointed “type” doll, a Pullip called Nomado. A couple of years ago, I had started my dolls’ collection with a couple of cheaper Class Mates, but the Pullip was really something different altogether (even though, they are both made by Jun Planning – the Class Mate series never took off, and only three dolls were released to the public).

A day after Nomado’s arrival, I signed up at several Pullip forums, re-arranged my flickr account, bought a Chill – and then the snowball began rolling..! As this is written, I am expecting 4 more dolls to arrive, all of them second (or third)-hand,  and I’ve stocked up on Barbie clothes, furniture, even carpet samples for a future dollhouse/diorama! I’ve arranged with my neighbour to take over her living room cabinet – consisting of three shelves with see-through front pieces which can be opened by raising them upwards, and a bottom drawer for the things I don’t want on display. I am planning on decorating each shelf as a room (or two); I am thinking living room, kitchen and bedroom. Perhaps a bathroom next to the bedroom, I already have a tub!

Even though all but the Nomado were bought second-hand and thus weren’t as expensive as in the stores, I will definitely not be as eager and trigger-happy when it comes to buying for a couple of months. Six dolls should be enough to keep me busy, I reckon re-ment will be the focus of my attention in the time to come. My main drive for becoming so obsessed is that these dolls are perfect for photography – my other self-absorbing hobby right now. I am also thinking that this will be the incitement I need to get my sewing machine fixed, I’ve ordered a Japanese pattern book and will be looking through my closets for fabric next. My parents are both handy crafts people, my mum knits and crochets, and my dad makes the best miniatures, so I am hoping to get them too involved once they’re finished mocking me for “playing with dolls”. ;)
