Customizing Class Mates

I am in the process of giving Class Mate Marippe a makeover. Her wig was replaced a little while ago, and now her face is the main task. I’m giving her a new faceup (lower eyelashes and eyebrows excepted), and new eyes. Class Mates have real eye sockets, the same way other Jun Planning dolls have, but the eyes inside are painted and quite “flat”.

A post focusing on Class Mates

Before I started collecting Pullips, I’d already bought two Jun Planning dolls (not that I knew that they were from the same manufacturer back then, but yeah..). I’d been drooling over BJDs on the Dollmore site, when I found these cheaper dolls, and purchased the first one back in 2006 – the boy Takeru. A year or so later Marippe came along. Both of them have been sitting relatively still on a shelf, until this summer. As I began posing my first Pullip for pictures, I realized that the Class Mate dolls actually were just as – if not more – poseable, and decided I wanted to give them a new life. I’ve ordered mohair wigs for them, because their stock hair is really stiff and unmanageable, and I’ve been looking at the possibility of changing their eyes. The next step was finding new clothes; Takeru’s outfit especially is rather… un-hip.

.. and then there were three

Trio

But, contrary to Genesis, they didn’t say farewell to anyone, in stead they gained a friend and went from being two to being a trio. Aquel arrived yesterday – how’s that for speedy shipping? she was purchased on Aug 11! – and today after work I picked her up from the post office. Thank you so much,

!

She came nude and her right arm is broken right above her wrist (chewed off by a dog? broken?), but her face and wig are both gorgeous. I would’ve obitused her anyway, because she has a close-to-unposeable body type 3, so the broken arm is not _that_ much of a problem. Marippe back to school Chill, to the right on the picture, will also have to get one of those obitsu bodies, but both girls will have to wait for my next paycheck to arrive. I am thinking of getting them a different size body; one 25cm and one 27cm. Next thing will be deciding on whether to get the soft or hard bust, and which size boobs. The soft bust body is suspected to cause melting in the part of the head which connects to the neck, but reports are not consistent and some prefer the soft body to the hard because the neck can be tilted in a more natural way (making the doll look shy).

Also in the mail the last couple of days have been several sets of Barbie Model Muse clothes and Re-Ment, mostly school and kitchen stuff. The school chair was way too small to the Pullips, it’s even a bit tiny for my Class Mates. I did manage to pose Marippe on it for a couple of pictures, though, but I have to admit that it’s not as inspiring working with that doll brand because of their empty stare. I really, really hope I’ll be able to find new eyes for them!
