Uhm, blind fandom, anyone?

So, over at kuroshitsuji there’s a huge wow!OMG! thing going on right now over an article someone dug out about some real life facts of the Jack The Ripper case. Am I the only one who actually google/read/research/investigate about any new fandoms I get into? And is the JtR case _really_ such an unknown thing among youth today? *feels old and actually quite baffled*

  • And is the JtR case _really_ such an unknown thing among youth today?

Maybe so. :| Is that what it’s based on ? It’d baffle me too then just because you’d think a thing like that would be known to fans.

And no, you’re not the only one that researches and other things when adopting a new fandom. I watched one episode of a TV show and then visited it’s wikipedia article and also gathered up a whole bookmarks folder full of sites and icon communities for it to look at when I’m caught up. :)

There are several “arcs”, meaning themes, for the series. The Jack the Ripper theme was the first arc of the anime (I am not familiar with the manga), and lasted for 6 episodes or so.

Lol, you should watch the movie with Johnny Depp called “From Hell”, it’s all about JtR, and the Free Masons, if I’m correct…creepy…I won’t go into it…to weird for me…

  • Birgit says:

I used to work for the Free Masons, as a waiter on their dinner evenings (appr. once every two weeks). They were all just a bunch of boys disguised as adults. ;)

But yeah, aren’t you too surprised to read the responses to that entry? “Wow, thank you for posting..” “Neat, I didn’t know that!” and so on.. I am just. Speechless.

    *raises hand* I thought that was weird, too .__.; I’ve known about JtR for a LONG time – I learned about him in elementary/early middle school .. I guess not too many people know things like that these days ^^;

Eversince middle-school I was always wondering how come JTR was never caught… He was either very clever or someone very powerful economically/politicially (well who know he might as well be royalty) for Scothland Yard to be unable to catch him.

It all started when our EFL teacher gave us an article on JTR to read for English class~XD Yeah, teacher giving kids an article about a serial killer to read for class. LoL

wow- really? I’m surprised if people over the age of 15 doesn’t have a pretty good concept of Jack the Ripper, and I’m even MORE surprised if you’re a fan of an anime that is partly based on him (never seen the anime or read the manga so I know nothing about its relation to JtR though.)

But I’m guessing that some people don’t really have the interest too find out such things. It’s sad.

  • Birgit says:

Yeah, really! JtR is extremely important for the first episodes of the anime (not sure for how many chapters of the manga) – for Grell especially, but also Ciel – so comments like the ones in that topic just leaves me speechless. Especially when the conclusion is “wow, the manga-ka really did some awesome research”, when the subject should be commonly known for anyone with a slight interest for the historical era and its dark and mystical stories (which Kuroshitsuji fans surely would be).

  • Birgit says:

Your teacher sounds like a great person. ;) Did the parents like him/her?

  • Birgit says:

I’m relieved to see that I am not the only one, Yuuki! :)

  • Birgit says:

*giggles* New fans are charming in their own, ignorant way – no matter the fandom, it seems. ;)
